Calm and Ready to Learn: Sensory Support for Students

Help me give my students an educational environment where their sensory needs are met with vests, full body socks, and a weighted stuffed animal as weighted compression for the students

My Project

As a special education teacher working across multiple grade levels, I have the privilege of teaching students with incredibly caring hearts and brilliant minds. These students are highly perceptive—they notice every detail: the intensity of the lights, the hum of the air conditioner, a classmate tapping a pencil—all while trying to process the questions being asked of them.

This heightened awareness can often lead to sensory overload, making it challenging for them to stay focused and comfortable in the classroom.

To support them during these moments, I am requesting compression vests, weighted compression vests, and a weighted stuffed animal. These sensory tools will be used under the guidance of our occupational and physical therapists.

With these supports in place, students will be better able to self-regulate and return to a calm, focused state—even in stimulating environments. And as we know, that’s when they are best prepared to learn and thrive.
