Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

For most of my students, this is their first year of school. Listening to stories on CD helps students identify sounds and words that assist them in becoming readers. My students love reading, we just don't have access to many audio books in our room.

We are classified as a Title 1 Priority school.

This means that our students are economically disadvantaged and are currently performing lower than what our state says they should. I have a wonderful, bubbling class of 18 Kindergarten students. They have varied learning needs that stem from their experiences.

My Project

We are requesting audio books for the students to use at our daily listening station. The students work in teams of 2 or 3 and listen to the book on CD. An activity follows the reading and students are able to show comprehension of the story in a non-linguistic way.

Donations will assist in literacy learning in my room.

My students will benefit from hearing reading that they might not get a home. Each student has a chance to listen and respond to stories.
