My Students

My students are the reason I love being a teacher. Throughout the year, my students learn to become better communicators by practicing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The diversity in my classroom is amazing. Our school is very culturally diverse and many students speak more than one language, English often being their second or third.

The diversity of my students brings so much life to our exploration of the human experience in English Language Arts, and I am grateful for it.

At my school, many of the students are socioeconomically challenged. Their needs are great, but they are too. They are funny, kind, and curious. They are a community of learners who make me want to help them reach their goals every day.

My Project

This year, I will be working hard to make my classroom a place where students want to be. I know the value of creating a positive learning environment for students, and I want my students to walk into my room and feel welcome. Part of my efforts in creating a positive learning environment includes making a reading nook.

I want to use this space to make students feel comfortable in my class and to promote literacy by providing authentic reading experiences to them.

I would also like to use this space for small group discussions about literature. Furthermore, it would serve as a reward and provide flexible seating options to students who work better with alternative seating. To complete this project, my students will need four bean bag chairs and two rugs. Completing this project would have a profound impact in our classroom and any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
