One step at a time.

Revamping the traditional textbook classroom into a collaborative and inventive one is my current long term goal. My students are sponges that are eager to soak up any kind of knowledge sprinkled on them. However, we currently lack the materials that facilitate collaborative thinking and conversation.

My Project

In 5th grade, place values up to 1,000,000 and fractions are abstract concepts that need many concrete learning experiences to solidify children's understanding. The fraction and place value manipulatives and fraction math games provide alternate learning stations in our Math Workshops to practice these concepts. In addition, they will perfectly support our Singapore Math curriculum because the required manipulatives are too expensive for us to purchase. The dry erase boards will allow us to have small group teaching and math talks between the children. They will be a source of interactive space that allows young thinkers to experiment with new strategies. These boards can also be used in other subjects such as Writing, Reading, and in Social Studies!

Your donations will help further our dream for the classroom to be not just a room with 30 chairs and desks.

Instead, children will walk into a room where the opportunities are endless. Ideas can be discussed, edited, and revised to become better ones. Abstract ideas can also be represented concretely to ensure that every learner is reached. One step at a time; revamp the traditional classroom, starting with Math Workshop.
