Did you ever find an insect and think, "I wonder what this is?" Each spring my students become entomologists who collect, identify and study insects.
I teach a class of 32 fabulous fourth graders in a public school in California.
The highlight of our year happens in the spring when students learn about insects. We use many resources including field guide books, posters and websites to help us learn about the insects in our neighborhood. The students and their families get very involved in this project. I once had a student's father come to my classroom very early before school to show me a strange looking insect. It turned out to be a Jerusalem Cricket!
My Project
A new laptop computer will allow the students to research insect information on the Internet like real entomologists. Our current classroom computers are from the 90s. Pictures and other research information won't download. Our old computers are also not compatible with our newer classroom printer. Students cannot print their research information. A new computer would add an updated component to our spring insect unit. Students would practice Internet research skills that they can use in future school years and beyond.
Donations to this project will impact these nine and ten year old students.
They will be able to practice their research skills with the most current information and technology available. The computer can also be used for other research projects and student presentations. Funding this request may help produce the next famous entomologist who will rid the world of bedbugs!
