My students are amazing and brave. They come here from other countries, often knowing no English at all. They tackle the complexities of navigating life and school in a foreign environment, often without the assistance of a trusted adult. Despite the complications of learning in the COVID-19 pandemic, they persevere.
Since our school library was closed, books like A Wolf At the Door, Shadow Riders and A So-Called Vacation will greatly enhance my students access to engaging stories that entertain and teach about life.
The graphic novels are especially helpful in comprehension. Many of my students are not financially able to buy books, or are intimidated by trying to read in English without support. The snacks and drinks are to lower affective filters to help my students be their best.
