Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My daily, undying goal is to highlight to joys of exploring math. A significant part of this includes exploring the future of mathematics with my middle school students. Though I teach middle school mathematics, some of my students are very much ready to advance towards higher mathematical thinking.

My students dream big and work tirelessly to keep academic success at the top of their priorities.

Though they juggle a growing number of responsibilities, we always find time to reflect on the reasons why we work so hard. Our school is attended by a quite diverse assembly of personality types, histories, intelligences, talents, and skill sets. As we persevere in our efforts to understand the world around us, we often reference mathematics as a shared language.

My Project

My 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will use the graphing calculators to give literal and mathematical depth to the content they are currently exploring. Giving a student the ability to see equations as lines on a plane is often reserved until students enter the end of 7th or 8th grade. I would like to begin exploring the fundamental understandings of math visually through the inclusion of graphing calculator exercises for those students that are ready and interested in doing so. Students will be granted an access point to advanced studies of mathematics that may otherwise be unavailable at the time. Additionally, students will gain fluency in using a mathematical tool that they will again see in the continuation of their academic careers. Hesitating in exploring the use of a tool that encourages precision and technical fluency is nonsensical! Help us overcome this antiquated practice because some of us ready!

Donations to this project will provide an entry point to students that are prepared to explore math at a higher level.

Being able to access advanced content is an absolute gift to students that are ready to move onwards and upwards. We humbly request that you help us break some walls that are built between us and mathematical advancement!
