This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are collaborative, perseverant, and hard-working. More than 90% of my students came into my math classes one or more grades below their current grade level(s). With high standards and a quality curriculum they have made tremendous progress. This project will help them further their mastery of grade level math standards.
My Project
Calculators are vital tools for encouraging students' mathematical curiosity and conceptual understanding. In my classes, students solve grade level problems and need calculators to help them stay focused on higher-order thinking rather than computation. My students work in groups of four and they currently have one calculator per group and they take very good care of them. 24 calculators will provide each student in my class with a calculator. The supply boxes will ensure the calculators are organized along with other necessary school supplies such as pencils, rulers, protractors, and erasers.
