I teach 35 students in my 6th grade class. We are in a high-need community. I have 5 different languages spoken in my room and many have only been in the school system for a very short time. Family incomes do not allow them much money to donate to the school but many parents and students have made a great attempt to donate some money.
I have enough money for about half the calculators I need (my husband hasn't realized our checking account has been so generous yet). I am still trying to get 15 more calculators to complete a classroom set.
With 15 calculators donated from Donors Choose and the 20 I have purchased with classroom donations,I will have enough for each student to work on a calculator. My students struggle with grade level math but with much help and support our students are achieving higher each year.
By helping us with your donations, you have helped my students learn the value of contributing and helping others. They have made an effort to earn money and purchase over half of what we need. Now we are asking for the compassion and generosity of others to help us reach a goal.
