Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is very diverse. The diversity can be seen in both the ethnicity and economic levels of our students. In addition, some students come to class having been very successful in their previous math classes, and some come having struggled. However, all of them want to succeed and do well.
All our students can learn and do well, but all students learn differently.
Having a variety of materials in the classroom for students to use helps all students succeed, not matter what their background. When students feel successful they try harder and become more successful.
My Project
Students understand math better when it applies to the real world. However, the real world does not have nice neat numbers that are easy to work with. My students need calculators to be able to explore ideas and projects in math without having to waste time multiplying 3.14159*7917.7 (formula to find the circumference of the Earth).
While I do have calculators that students can share, it would help my students to each have their own to use in class.
Especially now with social distancing and not really knowing what the classroom will look like in the fall, it will help if each student has their own to use.
More than half of students from low‑income households
