Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am teaching a fifth/sixth gifted split classroom in a low-income neighborhood of Chicago. I have 32 students in my class. This year, we are using a new math program, Connected Math, and my students need calculators in order to be successful. Connected Math supports higher level thinking and uses practical examples to teach the necessary skills. I would love to be able to teach my students how to use scientific calculators in conjunction with this program so that they will be prepared for higher level math courses in the future. With your help, I would like to purchase a set of Texas Instruments TI-30x IIS calculators for my students. These are the calculators that are reccommended by Connected Math. I have received training in using this particular model and feel that my students would benefit tremendously from the experience. I would also like to purchase an overhead calculator and guide so that I could effectively show my students how to use the various functions. Thank you in advance for your kindness and genorosity. If I am able to purchase these calculators, they will be a resource that is used daily in my room.
