My students need 40 scientific calculators for our Middle School Math classes.
Can you imagine attempting to do Algebra without a calculator when you are already struggling in school? We have NO calculators in our classroom right now and we want to begin to familiarize ourselves with them so we can be prepared for high school.
Many students at this school transfer in 1 to 2 grade levels behind.
97.6% are minority students and 58.7% qualify for free or reduced lunches. Last year only 4 of the 8th graders passed the End of Course Assessment. We want to give them as many tools as possible to succeed this year!
Currently we have no calculators in our Middle School Math classroom. I want to be able to put scientific calculators in the hands of the students not to use as a crutch but instead so they can familiarize themselves with how they work so that when they advance to more difficult math courses they can utilize them correctly.
This project is important because 58.7% of our students receive free or reduced lunches and cannot afford to purchase calculators themselves and we want them to have as many tools as possible!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
