Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Youth living in South Memphis are accustomed to the long-term impact of systemic poverty: crime, food deserts, complex family life, and much more. These are just a few of the daily hardships my students face daily. Despite these hardships, students are excited and ready to learn!

My students love to learn.

They love it when I am able to integrate technology into the classroom. My students are hard workers. They all have a growth mindset and persist through challenges until they reach their goals. I love that my students are not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them.

My Project

My students love to love every day. They need calculators so they can focus on the new concepts and not math. Often time they spend time working out calculations in the corners of their paper (long division, multi-digit multiplication) which distracts them from the concept they are working on.

With working calculators, they are able to quickly do calculations and move on to the concepts they are working on.

Students are also able to see multiple lines of work so they can retrace their steps and find mistakes which also helps them clear up silly mistakes.

We need one more box to have a class set.
