Calculators for 9th Graders Learning Physical Science!
My students need 3 Calculator Kits that each hold 10 calculators. This will provide us with a class set of 30 calculators!

My Students
Make it count! The students at our high school need a set of functioning calculators in order to take on a more rigorous level of work.
Our students attend a Title 1 school in a low income community in South Florida.
We are consistently underperforming when it comes to distrcit and state assessments, largely impart to the lack of resources. We have a large immigrant population (mostly from islands in the Carribean) and a large population of students in foster care. Students come to school with a winning attitude and often stay after for hours after school in the many programs we offer. The school is often a safe haven for many of our students who have unstable homes or live in violent neighborhoods. Our students face many problems inside and outside of the classroom; a lack of resources should not be one of them.
My Project
I am requesting a set of 30 calculators for my classes to share. Currently we have a collection of mismatching calculators that do not always work. I teach Physical Science and it is pivotal that the students work to gather and manipulate data. It is nearly impossible sometimes to do this in a timely fashion with only a handful of functioning calculators. My largest class size is at 30 students. A set of 30 calculators will allow each student to have their own device while inside the class and working on labs, practice problems and inestigations all pertaining to Physical Science. With this device they will be able to take real data (distance/time, speed/time, mass/acceleration) and calculate real, tangible answers (speed, acceleration, force).
Math is a fundamental subject for every person in our world.
Without it, you are vulnerable and with it you are empowered. Physical Science is a wonderful course that not only teachers students the basics of life around them but also one that allows them to apply mathematics to the real world. With calculators we can use real data that we collect and not have to fear running decimals and unrounded numbers.
