Calculators Count: Finding Success With Graphing Calculators

My students need 10 graphing calculators.

I currently teach 11 and 12 grade students Mathematics. We are a high-need community. It is very difficult for students to be expected to purchase expensive graphing calculators.

At almost $100 a piece, these graphing calculators are difficult for students to come by. Having students come to school every day ready to learn and better their educations is a wonderful thing. It is a shame that they can not use these wonderful tools simply because of monetary reasons.

Graphing calculators will greatly help the students in my mathematics classes. Not only does it help to solidify concepts taught in class, students are able to see graphic representations of the work they are doing and are able to do much more with a calculator than they would be able to do on pen and paper. Also, on state testing students are allowed and encouraged to use these calculators. Allowing students to use these throughout the year will no doubt help when they are using them in a testing situation.

There are few times where people have the chance to make a difference with just a few dollars. This is a chance to GREATLY impact a student directly and help them find success in school and beyond.
