Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Science is my favorite class," is what I hear many students say in middle school. Science is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on learning and practice their STEM skills. However, eighth grade science can be difficult for many of my students whom English is not their first language. The high vocabulary demands can be challenging and so any help we can get is great.
We can't always help with the challenges at home but if we can overcome the hurdles in the classroom with interactive lessons and support literacy growth, we can achieve anything.
We do silly hand and body movements to learn vocabulary, we do labs, read and work collaboratively. I just need your help to make sure we have the materials needed.
My Project
Math and science go together like peanut butter and jelly, they are okay on their own but so much better together. We are frequently using calculators to calculate the mass of an atom, numbers of atoms in a chemical formula, speed, acceleration, force, mass and so much more. I have 1 calculator for every 2 students but 1 calculator for every student would be more efficient. People say "sharing is caring" which is true and my students are good sports about sharing their calculators with their neighbor. However, they deserve calculators for efficiency's sake. Please help our class run more smoothly with one calculator for every student.
