My Students

My students are 8th graders and 9th graders in a small rural town in Central Florida. They love a good challenge to help keep math class interesting! Hands-on activities and engaging projects really help to encourage the students to enjoy algebra on a daily basis. Critical thinking is a huge skill that my students really look forward to working on because it allows them to be creative in their mathematical process. Allowing my students to think outside the box and really explore the subject is a large part of my classroom atmosphere.

Hands-on manipulatives are a game changer in the mathematics classroom!

This year I plan to use a lot of manipulatives that my students can use themselves, specifically for Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 classes.

My Project

These calculators will help my students tremendously. We all know that practice makes perfect, but how can my students practice for their State Testing if they don't have the same calculators on a daily basis that they are expected to use on the test? I believe that giving my students the same materials year round will greatly benefit them.

Their familiarity alone with how to use the calculator as a tool will make a huge difference in their end results on any end of the year test.

Not to mention the reduced testing anxiety since the functions on the calculator won't be new to them. Calculators are needed on a daily basis in secondary education and I would like to give my students the opportunity to use nice ones.
