Calculating Wax to Metal Weight Using Specific Gravity in Casting
Help me give my students the opportunity to carve wax, calculate weights, draft patterns and cast precious metal rings.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Petersen's classroom raised $459

My Project
Students will cast unique Sterling Silver rings. They will draft designs in wax, determine their ring size, using the diameter and radius of a circle they scribe carving guidelines in wax tube. They will layout these metric measurements with a jewelers square and dividers onto a wax blank. Once the wax model is completed, they will calculate metal weight in grams by weighing the wax model and multiplying by the Specific Gravity for Sterling Silver. Finally they will cast a silver ring by heating the silver to its melt point of 1645 degrees Fehrenheit.
Bozeman High Jewelry students have a passion for learning and expressing their personal identity through making and wearing adornment.
