Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a wonderfully eclectic group of students! All of my classes are filled with English Language Learners, gifted and talented students, special education students, and students who are socioeconomically disadvantaged. My students make me smile everyday ,and I want to support their love of learning.
My students will need scientific calculators in order to complete assignments, fully understand new topics, and give them the calculator skills that they need to be successful on state-mandated tests.
Our school has some older calculators that students can check out for the year, but we don't have enough for all of the students who need them.
We use these calculators daily in my Algebra 1, Geometry, and IB Math Studies classes. When students do not have their own calculator, this impedes their progress.
Many of my students are struggling in math before they come into the classroom, but with the right tools (in this case, scientific calculators) my students can start to realize that they are mathematicians who can succeed.
