Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a public charter school teaching math middle and high school. The combination provides a strong sense of community where teachers know all of the children and families. We see most parents several times a week for drop-off and pick-up. Many of the children have been in classes together since infancy creating many interesting, sibling-like relationships. They both support and challenge each other every day.
My Project
These calculators will help in students achieving success in the classroom by learning how to properly use a calculator. Most of our students cannot afford a calculator because we are a Title I school and have never even been exposed to a handheld calculator. Funding this project would mean that our students would be able to finally know how to use a calculator on math problems with simple arithmetic. For example, students are adding and subtracting decimals by hand, but if they had a calculator they would be able to solve the problem more efficiently.
