My Students
The students in my classroom vary across multiple subject areas and represent a wide range of ability. However, the small learning community that I participate in provides commonality in facilitating students with an interest in arts and communications. Programs exist to help the highest and lowest performing students, but my program is specifically designed to reach the marginalized remainder that usually don't draw attention or find a place as they drift under the radar.
Students enter my classroom to find a community where they belong.
I strive to encourage every quirk that students get chastised for elsewhere, and thus find room after room of character and family as students discover their safety in numbers.
My Project
State law forbids requiring students to purchase materials to participate in a class. As such, we do not always have the opportunity to push modern technical literacy, nor do students always have access or experience. These TI84plus calculators will be left on the desk for students to borrow and use throughout the period as they see fit.
Being able to access the most current technology in mathematics is an experience and literacy that all students deserve.
As these are the same calculators allowed for use on advanced placement tests, familiarity is key for success. While this order is just for five calculators and a charging dock to start the process, it will serve as the control group and gateway to acquiring a full class set.
