The students who take my engineering and robotics classes are apart of a large, urban school and come from many different cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. However, these pieces of their identities do not define them.
The students who take my classes are curious, creative, and in general, they are thinkers.
They come in every day willing to learn and be challenged. They are future engineers and scientists and I want to help start them off on the right foot.
My Project
Engineering is bridging the connections between math, science, and logic. There are many topics in math and science that require calculations, so there are many calculations that my students perform in engineering as well.
Calculators make a big difference for students in STEM classes and being able to properly compute by using a calculator is a 21st century skill that all students should develop.
When students have an assigned calculator to use daily, it will increase the 21st century skills that they will use later in life along with increasing their comfort to solve more complex problems. Also, by increasing their comfort to solve complex problems in engineering, it will raise their comfort to solve difficult problems in their math and science classes as well.
