My students need 25 basic scientific calculators (Texas Instruments TI34II).
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Coulter's classroom raised $742
This project is fully funded
I teach 7th grade math and 8th grade pre-algebra. My school is in a low income community. I am a member of Teach for America and am the first teacher to be placed at my school in these subjects.
Students are eager to excel in mathematics and already see some of its everyday applications. Students come from various walks of life, I am fortunate enough to have parents who are very involved and dedicated to their child's education. However, the schools have small budgets because the majority of families are low income. The town was once divided racially and once desegregation came into effect, most white families began to send their students to private schools, thus leaving families with the fewest resources in the public school system.
These calculators will greatly benefit my students because the current calculators they are given to use do not have the functions of these calculators (fraction bar, sin function, etc.). In order to succeed students not only need to be able to understand the math, the students need to be able to use a calculator, especially for higher level math.
It has been researched and shown that students who can excel in pre-algebra and algebra are more likely to go onto higher education. These students deserve to have the resources of higher income schools in order to help them get to knowing that higher education isn't only a option but a reality.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
