This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my high school science classroom, I teach a wide variety of courses—from freshman Physics and Dual Credit Biology to upper-level Forensics. Each of these subjects challenges students to think critically, solve problems, and apply math in meaningful, real-world ways. However, one major barrier remains: access to basic scientific calculators.
Many of my students come from under-resourced backgrounds and do not have calculators to use in class or at home.
This makes it difficult for them to complete lab analyses, calculate forces and energy, determine rates of reaction, or even perform simple conversions. Scientific reasoning shouldn’t be limited by access to tools.
With your support, we can place calculators directly in students’ hands—so they can focus on understanding science, not worrying about how they’ll do the math. Whether analyzing DNA sequences in biology, calculating velocity in physics, or interpreting toxicology reports in forensics, these calculators will empower students to confidently engage with science.
Your donation helps create equity in the classroom and supports students who are preparing for college, STEM careers, and a future where science matters. Thank you for helping us do the math—and make a difference.
