This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Greatness is not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. I want to move the second graders beyond the city block they live in.

We are at small public school in California.

The students are all from socioeconomically disadvantaged homes. But in spite of that the parents want what's best for their children. They don't know how to achieve that, but they do trust me to help open the children's eyes to the wonderful world around them.

My Project

My students are fascinated by the ocean and sea life. I have been teaching them the importance of conservation. I want them to have first hand experience learning that research and conservation are important tools in understanding and protecting our valuable local ocean environments and resources. Research at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium consists of volunteer and student projects in both long-term monitoring of local marine habitats and the laboratory-based husbandry projects to achieve a better understanding of basic marine life and their lifecycles.

I believe in a commitment to conservation and that our responsibility toward wildlife extends beyond just safeguarding the animals in our care.

We are part of this world and we greatly affect our ocean environment. I want my students to ask themselves how can we take better care of our ocean?
