This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These are the kids that take home their supply boxes because they have nothing at home to write with or do their homework with. Most of my families struggle to know exactly what a growing child needs to have in order to excel in school.
These are the sweetest kids you would ever want to meet, but poverty limits everything in their school lives.
If I even discuss experiences such as going to the beach or playing in the snow, some of my students have no experience relating to what I am talking about. I have to get them to think about what they have seen on TV, and if I'm lucky a few of them have watched the Discovery Channel.
My Project
We are just requesting basic classroom supplies because my classroom has been using the same basics for 6 years now, and they are becoming unusable or in low supply such as construction paper. We can't do cutting projects because the scissors are dull. Or, students tell me, "Ms. Broadstone, this marker is out!" We have projects that come up in science and social studies that need these supplies. The request for balls is because most of our balls have been lost or popped since the beginning of the school year. The compasses and protractors are running low for the grade level. We do not have a class set in our three classrooms and need a full set of these important math tools.
With these materials, my students can have pride in their work.
They will not have to become frustrated when the scissors don't work or when we have to share compasses. We won't have to use a funky color of construction paper because we have run out of the better color. Thank you for your support!
