Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! I am a school psychologist serving students in two k-8 elementary schools in Phoenix, Arizona. I work with students with different disabilities as well as students who have experienced traumatic life events and face emotional challenges. Students in the schools that I serve come from culturally diverse backgrounds. As a school psychologist, I am passionate about providing mental health supports, academic interventions, and teaching students resiliency skills that will serve them beyond elementary school.
I am in need of some assistive technology items to help students with reading disabilities.
Resources such as a C-Pen reader assist students with print disabilities, like dyslexia, to 'read' text at a rate where they can keep up with the content of their same-aged peers.
My students are unique in every way. That includes the way that they learn the content with their general education peers. What I love about my students is that they are encouraged and curious about learning new ways to be successful in the classroom and beyond. With these materials, students will be able to access the same content as their peers, but in a way that is accommodating of their learning differences.
My Project
The C-Pen reader will assist students with Dyslexia and other reading disabilities. Technology has come so far, which is great for our students with disabilities, however, reading printed text that is not digital can still be a hurdle for our students. The C-Pen reader can be used on text that is not available in digital format, ultimately helping our students be included in every assignment, not just the assignments that can be modified from their original format.
Our students are more focused and successful when the environment is tailored to meet their needs.
Individual privacy blockers help students in classroom settings focus and avoid visual distractions. The products I have selected are both devices to help students with differing needs face the challenges that they face daily with completing assignments in the school setting.
