Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Pablo Picasso said it best, "The important thing is to create." My students often ask about painting and other forms of art. My heart breaks when I have to be the one to tell them that supplies are simply not available. These boys and girls simply don't understand what budget cuts are.

My students are a creative and energetic group of second graders that LOVE art.

Unfortunately, due to so many cuts, art supplies are just not available. Our school is located in a high poverty, high crime, and resourceless city in Southern California. Our school is also a Title One school, which means that most of our students qualify for free meals at school.

My Project

An art center with colorful paints, brushes, and paper will allow my students to explore the beautiful art of painting. They will also exercise their creativity through these experiences. In addition, my students can collaborate with their classmates to create art pieces in small groups. These opportunities will enhance my students art skills in painting and teach them to collaborate with a friend or two when creating art. How awesome is that?

I want my students to have amazing experiences and memories of creating art in second grade.

I want them to appreciate the arts and to develop skills that will not only benefit them when creating art, but in everything they do. Research continuously supports the importance of art. Will you?
