Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school has made tremendous gains over the past twelve years, moving from one of the lowest-performing schools in the area to achieving the honor of being named a California Distinguished School!
We are an example of a community of students, teachers, parents, and staff all working together for academic achievement.
Our hope is that many of our students will be the first generation in their families to go to college!
The majority of my students are English language learners (ELLs) whose families are newcomers to America. They are highly motivated to learn and prosper.
My Project
My students currently have to move chairs to the center of the room or sit on a hard laminate floor during math and science instruction. As you can imagine this is time-consuming and uncomfortable. Classroom rugs would alleviate so many problems.
Two classroom rugs would promote collaboration and conversation between students by having them sit together with a partner to discuss math and science topics.
They would also serve as meeting places where students would learn their math and science concepts.
I am also requesting a hand held vacuum that would be used to keep the rugs clean. It is important to teach students the importance of taking care of their belongings.
