My Students

As a math teacher, one of my goals every year is to help my students learn to love learning! I want my students to be able to see how math is used in the world every day, and feel confident in their abilities to use the skills learned outside of the classroom.

Because I teach 7th and 8th grade math I am trying to create a classroom where students are learning in an environment where students can believe in themselves and truly thrive.

I love that my students are always willing to try something new, even if they know it will be hard! Nothing is better than watching a child's eyes light up when they discover how to solve a tough problem!

My Project

Jr high is a rough time for so many students. I want to be able to do my part to help make my students' lives better - even if that means providing them with something as simple as a calculator. Currently my school does not have enough calculators to support all our math classes.

In my opinion scientific calculators are an essential need in any jr high math classroom!

The calculators will help my students be able to work through problems quickly and effectively, The calculators will also be so beneficial for my struggling students. By using a calculator all my students will be able to simply check their work after solving an equation.

I also have the unique opportunity this year of teaching students who are a year ahead in math. Currently I have 8th grade students who are taking a Secondary 1 math class. Secondary 1 (9th grade math) requires students to use a graphing calculator for many sections of our curriculum. However, graphing calculators are very expensive and I do not have the resources to provide each of my students with a graphing calculator to use outside of my classroom.
