My Project
I teach 4th grade in a rural, lower income community. My class is full of curious students who exhibit a great love of learning. My students are academically diverse, resulting in the need to differentiate instruction, specifically in reading.
Access to a wide variety of books will give my students opportunities to practice reading skills at their current levels.
Providing my students with a variety of differentiated books will help me better support their reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension.
The chosen books are from high-quality series and excellent authors. They include topics that my students have shown interest in such as sports, fantasy, and other cultures. These books will be utilized during our daily reading group period. Students will read, write about, and discuss the books in small novel groups. Providing appropriate level books will give my students opportunities to increase their vocabulary, learn about other cultures, and improve their reading skills.
