My students enjoy reading independently, in small groups, and as a whole class. In order to understand what they are reading, my students often ask for help determining the meaning of unknown words. When we use our limited amount of dictionaries during class, many students rely on their peers to look up words instead of utilizing those skills themselves. I would like to have a classroom set of dictionaries to ensure that every student has the opportunity to look up meanings of words when we read together as a class. Students who practice this essential skill will become better readers, increase their content knowledge, and improve their communication skills.
