Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are largely low income and immigrant. Our school is a Title I school, which speaks to the degree of my student's poverty, where over 85% of my students have free or reduced-price lunch.
As a teacher in a high poverty, largely Latino, public urban school, I have the added challenge of developing and fostering a high learning environment in my classes with students who may have been conditioned to believe they can't achieve because of our community's poverty.
My Project
I am asking for some general basics supplies I need for my classroom to function from day to day. We only receive $40 from our school for our classroom materials. I've already spent over $1,000 for my basic supplies this year thus far.
My students deserve all the supplies needed to learn.
They are extremely hard working and deserve the best.
We have recently run out of ink for all our printers. My colleagues and I cannot even print the work we need to make copies for. Nor can my students print their work. Most do not have printers at home and rely on school to print their work. Buying a new printer is cheaper than buying a replacement ink cartridge. For this reason, it is in my basic supply needs.
