Buy My Autistic Students A Robot

My students need a Wonder Workshop Dash and Dot Robot Wonder Pack and two Makey Makey Invention Kits.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Cosimano's classroom raised $489

My Students

My second and third grade classes are learning to use visual based coding. Every class period they are hard at work writing programs, getting their angry birds through mazes, helping their bees to make honey and directing their artists to draw shapes on code.org.

Our school is a K-5th grade program for students with autism spectrum disorder.

My classroom is the technology lab. In my class, students learn to use various forms of technology. This year my two, 2nd and 3rd grade classes (ages 7-9) are learning about computer programming. Using free and low cost programs from organizations like Code.org and Scratch Jr., my students are learning visual based coding. These programs are tapping into their love of computers and video games, helping them to develop reasoning and problem solving skills.

My Project

The Dash and Dot robots, from Wonder Workshop, will build on the skills that my 2nd and 3rd graders are learning this year. Dash and Dot are two small robots that can be programmed to follow commands. The robots connect to software on an iPad. The Wonder Workshop software is also a visual based coding system, making it an extension to what my students are currently working on. My students will be able to program the robots to navigate through the classroom, to interact with the environment and with each other. The Makey Makey invention kits will be another interesting way for my students to interact with technology. The invention kit is a circuit system that will allow the students to turn everyday objects into a computer keyboard or a game controller. My students will be able to use their imagination to create controllers, turning fruit into an electronic piano or play-doh into a controller for a video game.

Your donation will help to make my classroom more hands on for my 2nd and 3rd grade students.

The Wonder Workshop Robots and the Makey Makey Invention Kits will help to bring STEM to life for my students. The robots and the Makey Makey kits will help to inspire creative thinking and problem solving skills for my students.
