My Students

My students are everyday teenagers from all walks of life with a wide range of ability levels from freshmen reading at 3rd grade levels to Advanced Placement seniors preparing for college.

The less proficient readers work hard but struggle to find books that will spur their desire to read.

While the middle and advanced students do not have the same struggles academically, they are all lively, unique teenagers who jump from book to book not always finding the one that will inspire them to become life long readers.

My Project

One of the best parts of my job is watching a reluctant reader fall in love with a book! The light that turns on and the sudden hunger is heartwarming.

One of these books could be the spark that ignites a teen's love of reading!

When students have opportunities to choose what they read, they are more successful because they feel like the power is theirs. With that in mind, I have built a classroom library based on student choice.

However, to keep the momentum going, our classroom library needs to stay current especially since the tastes of students change from year to year. That is why I make sure each year's group of students has a chance to "shop" for books based on their interests.

The list below is what they have selected. Each book was requested by one or more current students. Your donation could place the book that makes a difference in their hands!
