My Project

Our classroom library is one of the most coveted spaces in the room, and it's because students have access to so many choices of great literature. We have this access because donors like you have supported our library's growth over the years.

A robust library full of books about characters that look like my students is one of the most powerful resources I can give my students.

Growing up, I did not have this in my classrooms, so this is something that is very important to me. But even more important is the impact it will have on my black and brown students. With these books, we will grow the Black Excellence section of our library and our listening library. I can't even begin to explain the positive impact our Listening Library has had on our reluctant readers. They beg to grab the iPod (a previous DC project) and their book and curl up with it for as long as they can get away with it. Your support of this project will reel in so many more readers! Real books, like the ones in this project, give students real reasons for reading.
