Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The number of students going into engineering in college is dwindling. Three years ago a colleague and I began a robotics team in a low income public school that would enable students to experience hands on engineering and interact with engineers. The class also provides pre-engineering college credit for those who are interested. The robotics team competes in regional and world championships. The school services a low income neighborhood, and the students are primarily local students from the community.

Our team must fund raise for all of the parts, tools, and expenses of our program. Our community is not in the financial position to help us with costs. We go to several competitions each year and need a button maker to advertise and promote our team as an ally with other teams.

When my students go to competitions, the teams make buttons that advertise their robot and team. We take one or two robots to each competition and would like to buy a button machine that would allow us to make buttons with advertising for our different robots and team numbers. We would also like to use the button machine for fund raising, making buttons for other clubs on campus or around the community.

Your help in providing this button making machine will ensure that our team will be able to make the team connections and allies that help us progress in the competitions. It will also provide us with a fund raising opportunity that will enable us to provide money for future needs.
