My students need to be able to individually experience the life of a butterfly by having their very own larva, cup, and food for the caterpillar to thrive, survive, and transform into a butterfly.
My students are very special! One reason is because they are mine and all kiddos are a special gift from God! My class is compiled from many different ethnicity backgrounds. We are a Title I school made up of White, Black, Hispanic, and Chinese. Most kids come from low-income households and broken homes. A big percentage of our students are on free or reduced lunch and many received backpack meals for the weekend.
No matter the background of our children, they are loved!
Our staff at WMES strive to make a difference one child at a time. Our motto is "Lead to Learn, Learn to Lead!"
My students are special because they show up giving their best and have a desire to learn and become successful!
My Project
The students will be able to fully understand each phase of the lifecycle of a butterfly by having their very own larva! The students will create it's home in their cup with food and begin to observe it daily to see the exact life cycle changes it goes through to become a butterfly! When the caterpillar is in the J shape phase, the students will get to transfer the caterpillar to the butterfly net to wait for their own butterfly to be born (hatch). This is an amazing experience! This will enhance our lifecycle study and mesh well with our field trip to the Botanical Gardens to wrap up our study.
