Butterfly Life Cycle

My Students

I teach 2nd grade at a Title 1 school in Michigan where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. My classroom has become a second home and a safe place for them. My students love to read and need more non-fiction texts to increase their reading engagement.

My students face many hardships that many of us can't even imagine.

I am on a mission to pass on my love of learning to my students. My classroom is a safe haven for them. I want to provide as many fun and engaging learning opportunities for them as well as having a comforting environment.

My Project

Our class is going to be learning about the butterfly life cycle in our science curriculum. Having our own butterflies to monitor will help engage the students and give them a first hand experience with a life cycle. We are also going to be including the butterflies in our writing unit.

This project will give each student the opportunity to care for their own butterfly.

The will watch and document every stage of the butterfly life cycle through a journal. When our butterflies are all hatched, we will release them by the schools garden.

Students will become more interested in science if we can provided them with more hands on experiences.
