My students need quality science materials to engage in meaningful inquiry studies. This butterfly kit will allow my students to observe the life cycle of the butterfly first hand.
Play is one of the most successful ways for students to learn. Through meaningful, deliberately designed activities, students can access the curriculum in relevant ways. With games and dramatic play, students have fun but also learn crucial academic skills.
I work in a large urban elementary school serving grades K-5 in the Midwest.
100% of students within the school receive free breakfast and lunch based upon the low socioeconomic status of the surrounding community. These students deserve access to the best opportunities and supplies, just like those provided to the more affluent surrounding areas. Engaging lessons and hands-on experiences are exactly what the children of this community need.
My Project
Students learn about the world around them through inquiry and investigation. This butterfly kit will allow students to observe the life cycle of the butterfly first hand. They will have a chance to practice observation and investigation skills with magnifying lens and a reflective journal. At the conclusion, students will combine their studies with poetry writing.
These high quality science materials will empower students to take ownership of their learning as they discover new information about the world around them.
Students will connect their learning to their reading through high interest nonfiction books about butterflies. Through the entire process, students will develop strong research skills.
