Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I presently teach 23 young scientists that love to plan, design and build things. They are learning to share and get along with a variety of personalities. My school is 80% free and reduced lunch and breakfast. This is a great place to teach and be a student. We are able to hike on our 39 acre campus, read in one of our many gardens, and plant a variety of vegetables in our new Learning Garden, or visit our Makers Space and create all kinds of things and hopefully insects that they know or create their own unique insect.
We have a STEM Clubs daily with grades kindergarten and first grade classrooms and I hope my next club will be all about Insects.
My dream is to have my students in my club share their knowledge across grade levels.
My Project
The many insect resources would be used during math, science , and STEM Clubs. When I receive our tadpoles, ants, ladybugs, and caterpillars, I will have my students use their science journals to draw and write how the insects are changing . They would also learn about their various life cycles using the magnetic life cycle kit. I will also share many insect focused stories and songs.
The bug catchers, magnifiers, science vests, and binoculars will be helpful for our insect hikes.
The insect puppets will help improve their confidence in public speaking when sharing with their peers all their knowledge. My hope is to instill the love of insects and how they are so important to us and the environment.
