This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Imagine starting the new school year with no supplies.
I am a Teaching Fellow in my sixth year of teaching.
I teach a 3rd grade special education class (multiple subjects). My classroom demographic is diverse. My students are of ages 8-10. They have been diagnosed with learning disabilities (speech/language impairment, cognitive/developmental delays, etc.), sensory impairments (visual, auditory), related health alerts (ADD/ADHD) and emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD). I have a class of 12 children this year, 7 boys and 5 girls.
My Project
As the new school year approaches I am in a state of panic because my classroom is lacking the basic supplies to create a nurturing and engaging environment. Last year I found myself spending an large amount of money on school supplies. Unfortunately my students’ parents are unable to provide them with the basic supplies for school. Because of the budget cuts facing our schools my school is unable to provide us with necessary supplies. Basic supplies like pencils, crayons and glue are not available and unfortunately I have to purchase these tools. It is unfair that my students have to be at school without the supplies that are necessary to learn.
These basic supplies will allow my students to engage in daily activities without worrying about coming to school without them. It will also help me to organize my classroom and create an environment that is filled with items that my students' do not get to use at home.
With your support my students will have the necessary learning tools needed to succeed.
These supplies will alleviate the stress on the students and parents and ensure that the students are at school, ready to learn!
