Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being a kid in school drawing and coloring with the art teacher? Well my students don't have the opportunity to enjoy this simple childhood pleasure that we all experienced as children. The title of this project was an actual statement made by my students repeatedly.

I am a 5th grade teacher in New York.

The school I work in is in a low income area. My students work very hard in school and deserve to have some extracurricular activities. Due to budget cuts we don't have an art program in our school anymore. We also don't have the materials or the time to incorporate art during the school day. I would like to start an afterschool art program for the talented students in my school to express themselves.

My Project

When I was young I had softball coaches who became my mentor and helped to pave my way to a sports scholarship in college. I would like to be an artistic mentor for my students. I could have the next Picasso or Dali in my school but without your help I may never find out. My students deserve the same opportunities we had as children and nothing less. This is why I am requesting art materials such as sketch pads, canvases, draw pencils just to name a few things.

This afterschool program will also keep my students in a safe and healthy environment afterschool that without your generosity they are left to hang out in the streets after school.
