Busy Hands Calm Busy Minds

Help me give my students manipulatives to diffuse the awkwardness of sharing difficult stories and a way to find the words to express themselves in conversation. Something sweet helps them.

My Project

High School is hard. School Counselors connect with all different students for all different reasons but one common theme prevails: trust and respect are huge components of open conversation. Building trust and courage to share awkward, embarrassing or hurtful stories takes time.

Fidget toys, mints, and a mosaic poster that we can work on together with our students helps them diffuse the rush of emotions, and focuses their attention just enough to allow the words to flow.

Sometimes, all we need are busy hands to help calm minds. These interactive and appealing items will appeal to our students and help them regroup so they can continue on with their day.
