Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We begin every math lesson with our problem of the day followed by a number talk where students share strategies and explain their thinking to their classmates. Next comes the mini-lesson, independent practice with small group instruction.

We have a very diverse classroom with students at all academic levels.

All of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Most of my students are English Language Learners. Some in year one, while others ready to transition out of the bilingual program. This is our first year working with our new math curriculum.

My Project

My students and I are learning our new math curriculum and we are in need of maniputlives to help develop my students understanding of the mathematical concepts. One of the toughest standard in third grade is fractions. The write and wipe number line fractions will be a great visual to help students compare and find equivalent fractions. The Base 10 hands-on kit will be a great tool to teach addition and subtraction with place value. Students will be able to use these in a small group setting, partner work, and during center games.

Putting these manipultives in every student's hands ensures every type of learner, at all levels, gets what they need for a deeper understanding.

Oftentimes, the concepts are too abstract and the ability to work with materials really helps students grasp that higher level concept.
