My Project

Each year I am lucky enough to work with some amazing students. These students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities. While each child is special and unique, every child seems to thrive and excel with hands-on activities.

My students and I have the most success when we are able to manipulate materials and work with our hands.

Not only does this make learning more fun, but it helps to reinforce the topics we are learning in a more meaningful way. We spend a lot of time using Number Bonds, Ten Frames, and anything else we can manipulate to help with both addition and subtraction. Quite often I learn from my students, instead of the other way around, when they are free to explore and create with materials. They amaze me every day with their ability to think outside the box and are able to show their deep understanding of class concepts when given this freedom to explore.

It is nice when we have a variety of options for learning these skills. My students love magnets and creating 3- and 4-letter words. Lakeshore Learning Materials like the Build A Word Magnet Board will help make this even more fun. I use these activities every day for whole group, small group, and individualized activities.

I make a lot of activities for the students as well. Most students would much rather do these fun games and activities than work on a computer or on a handout. As you can imagine, I use a LOT of laminate. Please help me to get some more to help preserve these projects so that I can continue to take pictures of their work and send it to families. Any donations to help me continue with this will be greatly appreciated!
