My Students
Our Title I public school in Phoenix, Arizona serves a diverse group of students, with many different academic and social emotional needs. The students in my class are brilliant, highly motivated, and creative learners. Like most of the country we began our school year online. They did an amazing job adapting to the world of virtual learning. During the fall we had the opportunity to learn in-person for six amazing weeks. Once the Holidays approached we transitioned back to remote learning. In four weeks we will hopefully have the opportunity to be learning in person once again.
My Project
My students learn best when given opportunities to explore through visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic, and social activities. My students have been very limited to experience these types of learning opportunities due to Covid-19 and remote learning. With our class transitioning back and forth between virtual learning and in-person it’s important to find ways to meet the learning needs of every student whether they are in the classroom or at home. The multi-colored bingo chips will be used for math counters to practice addition, subtraction, patterns, and counting to100. There will be enough chips for each student to have 100 chips for learning at home and a set for each child in the classroom to use when we return to in-person learning. These math chips will be a powerful tool for building their number sense and math fluency.
Another great hands on learning tool is the stretch sensory noodles.
My students will use these tools to stretch out sounds in words as they stretch their noodles and their minds. These engaging tactile and kinesthetic learning tools can also be sent home to support their learning during remote lessons.
Lastly the magnetic pizza slices and the ten frame floor mats are the tools that will help move addition and subtraction concepts from theory to concrete skills. When we are in the classroom my students will get to move and manipulate the pizza slices, along with the ten frame counters to solve equations. By funding this project you are giving every student in my class an opportunity to engage in learning regardless of their physical location. Thank you for your support!
