My Project

As a second-year Special Education Teacher in a Self-Contained classroom, one of my goals is to increase student engagement.

In the past year, I had the opportunity to get to know my students, particularly their variety and unique interests.

This year, it is my goal to provide my kindergarten through third-grade students with a valuable entry point into learning new skills because they are highly motivating and rewarding. The first is to encourage joint engagement with my students in positive and extended social interactions through both teacher-directed and learner-initiated activities. For example, board games such as Tic-Tac-Toe and Connect4 are some games my students love to participate in. Second, I use sensory integration therapy to help my students learn to use all their senses, including touch, smell, taste, sight, and hearing. For example, kinetic sand, Play-Doh, and sensory tiles are some sensory items that my students love. These items are designed to encourage my students to engage with their peers and teachers, as well as to use all their senses. As a result, my students will be motivated and rewarded in an environment that is aligned with their interests. I appreciate you taking the time to read my goals for my students this year.
