My students need book boxes to help keep books close at hand when they are reading around the room. They also need to have a class library that is organized in bins.
2nd Graders have just begun to get their feet wet when it comes to getting into a really good book that they can't put down. My second graders come in ready to build their reading stamina as they dive into new and exciting books every day! They are sponges waiting to absorb every piece of information.
Our classroom is a great place to be!
Help me make good fit books available to my students as they read around the room.
My students are excited to read! At 2nd grade, students are introduced to chapter books with more complex plots and multifaceted characters that are just begging to be read. They love to draw pictures, read books, tell jokes and play video games. These students come from a variety of backgrounds and homes. Many come from refugee or single parent families and several of them are learning English as their second language. There are even a few with learning disabilities and emotional or behavior issues.
Our classroom is an equal playing field where all students have the opportunity to feel safe, have fun and learn with their peers. At our school we believe that all students are capable of success, no matter the obstacles they face. In addition to shaping well-rounded people, we are committed to high-quality instruction for every child, every day in every classroom.
My Project
The individual book boxes will allow students to have books at their fingertips as they read around the room. As they finish a book they won't have to leave their comfy reading zone to find another book. They will just have to reach over, grab a new book and keep on reading. As they book shop from the organized bins in our classroom library they will be able to easily find books in their level, non-fiction texts, and books on topics that interest them. While they are book shopping they will learn how to choose a good fit book and how to be responsible for the books they choose and keep for the week until they shop again. Students take pride in choosing their own books and are always ready to make a recommendation to other students about a good book they found "hiding" in the class library.
The book boxes and library bins will keep our classroom an organized environment where everyone feels like they have access to the books they need to fill their hunger for reading.
Students will learn to choose books that they want to read; giving them choice and empowering them to try new levels and genres in their reading.
