The first time I stepped foot on a volleyball court, my life changed. I learned not only the joy of the game, but learned discipline, team work, and how to get and stay in shape. I learned about communication and the importance of a team. Volleyball has literally changed my life.
My kids are 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
They attend a charter school in an urban and highly violent area of Brooklyn. My kids are exciting, intriguing and curious. This is the third year we have offered volleyball as an after-school sport, and the kids have had old and broken equipment, flat volleyballs and a low morale. I would love to bring some new shiny volleyballs onto the court for kids to practice with, so their arms aren't stinging from the old balls that they are currently using. All things considered, my kids won 12 games in a row last year, and have a 1st place trophy from the Charter School Association to show for it. This year, they deserve appropriate equipment. Please support my athletes, and lead us to another victory!
Many of my students are coming into this school year having never touched a volleyball, and having never set foot on a court. If my athletes get these 7 new volleyballs, they'll be able to practice with confidence, and from learning the sport, they'll also learn the importance of teamwork, communication, encouragement, dedication and discipline. My goal is to always invest parents, and I want kids to go home after practice begging their parents to come to their next game!
This project will have a lasting impact on the future of volleyball at my charter School.
It's up to me to make sure this sport lasts at my school. As a 6th year teacher and a volleyball player for life, it's my mission to make sure my kids are exposed to such an important sport and experience. Please help me do that.
